Due to the pulsatile secretion of LH and testosterone (Fig. 11.20), and because of the effects of each on the synthesis of the other, gonadotrophins and testosterone may be measured in a pool that is formed by combining three to four samples of equal amounts of blood obtained at fifteen- to twenty-minute intervals. In this way, a single sample of serum is submitted to the laboratory, and the ΓÇÿaveragingΓÇÖ of values is accomplished prior to assay.
